The Iowa State Patrol has released information about a four-vehicle chain reaction fatal collision Monday afternoon on Highway 30 east of Scranton.
According to an ISP report, Becky Jo Wolf, 63, of Scranton, had stopped in her 2018 Ford Explorer for road construction east of Forest Ave. Behind her was Harley Marie Smith, 17, of Jefferson in a 2007 Ford Focus, followed by Donald Clayton Haberl, 88, of Carroll in a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox. Amy Marie Yager, 30, of Coon Rapids, driving a 2003 Toyota Prius, failed to stop and struck the rear of Haberl’s vehicle. That vehicle in turn struck the rear of Smith’s vehicle, which in turn struck the rear of Wolf’s vehicle.
Mary Ann Haberl, 84, of Carroll, a front seat passenger in the Haberl vehicle, died in the collision.
Information from Greene County sheriff Jack Williams stated that four persons sustained serious injuries and were taken by ambulance to Greene County Medical Center. Two were then transferred by helicopter to other hospitals.
Scranton fire and rescue, Jefferson fire, Greene County Ambulance, Grand Junction rescue and the Jefferson police department responded to the scene along with the Iowa State Patrol.
